Towy Sewin

Original acrylic on canvas

45cm x 60cm

Not only is the Towy Valley stunningly beautiful, the River Towy itself is renowned for the quality of fishing, especially for the sea trout, or Sewin as they are known locally. These beautiful silvery fish return from the sea in early summer to spawn. I was standing on the bridge over the Towy near our home and saw the flash of silver pass over the pebbles on the riverbed: I don’t really know if it was a Sewin or not, but in my mind it was one of a shoal, all moving sinuously up the river together with the sunlight reflecting off their scales in hues of gold, pink and silver.
