The summer of 2021 finally saw me able to go back into the landscape that I love. Suddenly, travelling the little distance to walk the Brecon Beacons and the Preseli mountains became huge adventures, filled with utter delight and a euphoria of being back where my heart sings.
Walking under the peaks of these beautiful mountains, with their peaks and crags towering above me, was both exhilarating and humbling.
These works developed over months of walking and exploring, and I found myself using higher horizons and broad sweeping fluid marks to capture the imposing and beautifully wild nature of these landscapes. Then this autumn, the mountainsides were transformed by the most amazing crop of berries on the hawthorns. The mountainsides suddenly became maroon and a whole new palette was needed.
