Bespoke Lampshades

Lampshades are a very personal choice and often the thing that makes your room unique and individual. They add the accent, the flash of colour or imagery that makes your room your own. A bespoke lampshade means you can have input into the design process so that it is what you really want; it can be created in the colour way that will enhance your home and be that perfect, unique, finishing touch to any room.  

I use natural calico and water-based pigments to design and create lampshades that create the special focal point: a splash of colour; a quirky, abstract pattern, or a way to bring the wonderful outside world into your home. Each piece is unique due to the way that fabric absorbs pigments, and these can be made to fit any colour scheme and in a wide range of shapes and sizes.

Prices start from as little as £35, and are based on the size of the shade you require.

When choosing lampshades, floor or table lamps, there is an infinite combination of sizes, shapes, colours and patterns to consider, so have a browse through the gallery and see if you’re inspired by anything you see. 

 Lampshades begin at 20cm diameter upwards and can be designed as a pendant or for a stand.  Floor lamps make quite a statement in a room at 74cm tall and 20cm diameter, and my table lamps are 38cm tall and 15cm in diameter.

How they’re made

I create all designs on paper in discussion with my clients so that we can make sure each pattern and colour scheme is exactly what each person wishes for. I then paint the designs on to 100% calico using top quality water-based fabric inks. 

I enjoy using a combination of, printing with natural materials, creating my own stencils and hand painting to create vibrant and exciting designs. This is ‘fixed’ by ironing before being mounted on the fire resistant PVC backing, and then on to the lampshade frame.  

All materials comply with BS EN 60598-1-2008, the British Standard for Luminaries.  The PVC based backing ensures the lampshades are fire resistant. It has been tested in the Lighting Association Laboratories and has passed the glow wire test. I recommend the use of low-energy or LED bulbs: as they are cool to the touch, preventing the risk of scorching shades.
