Aaaaaaand I’m back…. well very nearly.

I’ve had to take a few weeks out of the painting schedule for a spot of surgery. I didn’t quite appreciate how it was going to knock me sideways, but I’m on the mend and itching to get back to it.

Thanks for all the lovely well-wishing messages: they’ve been a real boon to the soul. Here’s to getting back into my happy place and getting back to work on the Dream Island collection.

Lessons learned:
- completely fill the voids with glass powder so the background glass doesn’t show
- use a darker glass as the back layer, white is not good
- ditch the ‘citronella’, it’s far too yellow
- use more black to make the overall tones darker
- use blue hues in the sea area to make the red sandstone cliffs of @skokholm_island clearer

All in all: for the first attempt of my bas-relief glass design, this is flippin exciting. Can’t wait to do the next one.

True irony!!

Believe it or not, this is going to be translated into glass!! It will be an abstract diptych based on the shapes and textures of @skokholm_island for the Dream Island exhibition. I’m going to be working in reverse and the wrong way round as I’m creating a bas-relief effect…… it’s frying my brain!!

What’s ironic?

That such an abstract idea requires so much careful planning!! 🤣🤣🤣

Great day channeling @skokholm_island in the potte

Great day channeling @skokholm_island in the pottery studio today.

It was great to see impressions of the cliffs emerging as I carved, ripped and sculpted the surface of the clay. The wonderful jagged Old Red Sandstone, with its inclined strata creating amazing shapes and outlines.

Time to dry everything, then ‘bisque’ it before raku firing for my Dream Island exhibition.

A good day in the studio today. 🙂
