Description

This collection was created as a celebration of the beauty and ecological importance of Skokholm Island, affectionately named ‘Dream Island’ by Ronald Lockley who lived there from 1927 until WW2, and with the aim of raising funds for the conservation work carried out there.

The wildlife and landscape of this amazing little island has captivated me since my teens: the sheer volume of sea birds and the incredible colour palette created by the rocks and plants is unique, and certainly a departure from the palette of the landscape where I live.

Whilst I wanted to express the wildness and raw beauty of this amazing place, I also wanted people to be able to recognise aspects of the landscape: to have memories triggered and recalled by the paintings they were looking at. By combining both abstract marks and textures with figurative features I hope I have been able to convey the  magic of Skokholm Island, and the very special place it holds in my heart.
