Description

After a trip to Iceland, I found myself exploring wider vistas in my paintings. Usually I find myself drawn to the immensity of landscapes, looking up at towering crags and outcrops, but after the immensity of Iceland, I found myself drawn to expressing the wildness of more open views, experimenting with evoking the physicality of the elements on a wider scale.

In these pieces, I enjoyed using more textured materials such as sediments from the actual locations, to add an extra dimension to the colour palettes. Using scratching back and sanding through successive layers has revealed glimpses of what went before, abstracting elements of the landscape that stayed with me, and creating subtleties that catch the eye.
