Painting plein aire (outside) on a lavender farm was a wonderful experience. As I settled to painting the scene, I realised I was completely enveloped in the glorious aroma of the lavender. The sun shone and it became a challenge to work the paint before it dried on the board, which added to the excitement. Then, I realised the whole scene was constantly moving: when I looked closer I could see that the whole area was covered in bumble bees. It was an amazing sight: what a joy to be able to paint in such a fantastic place.
