Description
This painting was inspired by a walk along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, looking north towards Strumble Head. It was a beautiful day: the heathers were a deep magenta and purple, the sea was unusually calm for this part of the world, and in the distance I could see the rocky outline of the Garn above the deep inlet that forms Pwllderi Bay – my favourite place in the world. The whole scene was a palette of blues and pinks: beautiful.
I enjoyed using ‘scumbling’ with very dry acrylic pigments to get the diffuse effects of this landscape, and give the feeling of the summer haze and great distance.
