Description
Part of the ‘Distant Horizons’ collection.
I am a big fan of organic curves and sinuous shapes. I love squiggles and the randomness of patterns in nature. Interestingly, my favourite local mountains have very straight and angular edges, so when a friend challenged me to only use straight lines and tools I don’t normally use, in my art. I couldn’t resist. I was surprised at how difficult I found this exercise: I kept wanting to create rounded shapes but only using rigid, straight tools made it impossible. Needless to say, I had a lot of disasters, but eventually began to really enjoy myself in this new way, and found the local mountains appearing on the board before me.
I used a variety of media for these pieces: acrylic paints, oil and water colour pastels.
